CGI AS A VIRTUAL STUDIO

As CGI has progressed to achieve true photorealism over the last decade or so, I decided to implement the various technologies used to generate CGI to serve food and beverage visuals. Food and liquids are notoriously difficult to create in 3d which is why I use as many high resolution, photo-scanned assets as possible using only the most photo-real render engines to generate the final images.

Virtual CGI sets cut down on travel and production expenses, are infinitely customizable, and remain set up and built for eternity, allowing clients to generate additional assets at a later date in their own custom virtual studio space.

ASSET CREATION

This is the most important part of the process since a CGI asset can only be as photo-realistic as the textures used. We use a combination of photo and laser scans to generate our assets and render using both V-Ray and Pixar's Renderman engines for generating the final render.

Bring a Concept to Life

We create visuals from existing concepts however we can also be involved in the concept process or generate a concept from scratch.

Scan, Model, and Simulate Required Assets

When possible, we always use the highest resolution and most -photo-real scanned assets in our animations to match what can be captured on film.

Animate and Iterate

This is a critical stage in the process getting the overall structure of the shot in place to avoid costly re-renders.

Texture and Render

The drab clay render is now ready to come to life with a set of photo-real texturing applied to the assets.

Compositing

Rendering in layers allows for an incredible amount of post-render editing.

Color Grading and Sound Design

This process brings the color range into more of a cohesive final asset and once the sound is applied, the spot truly comes to life.
